Having been ravaged by the invading Danes, the town become rather prosperous during the Middle Ages, with the first ever turnpike road in England reputed to have been created here.
Nowadays, Attleborough has a population of just under 10,000, yet a weekly market is still held which is a tradion that has been going on since the 13th Century.
