Romford is a large town in East London with population of nearly 100,000 people.
It is the administrative centre of the London Borough of Havering, and is located less than 15 miles from the centre of London.
Once a market town withing the county of Essex, it shifted from agriculture to light industry and then finally to commerce.

The town initially developed in the Middle Ages thanks to its situation on the main road to London, and a market was held there from 1247.
Following on from its agricultural beginnings in that became a centre of the leather industry from the 15th to the 19th Century, although other industries such as weaving, brewing and charcoal burning took place in the town too.
Nowadays many people commute from Romford into Central London.
